Band information

Defryme was a Melbourne band offering a cross between funk and metal with a sound like Faith No More mixed with Red Hot Chili Peppers' heavy moments. Early line-ups included a sax player and a female backing vocalist. Defryme's output was solid if not particularly original. Geared toward a mainstream audience, the band won a contract with BMG.

The debut album cracked the Top 40 and a blistering and somewhat convincing cover of LL Cool J's 'Mama Said Knock You Out' was a minor hit but the interest wasn't sustained and the band drifted apart. Gardner-Kane recorded a track for the AC/DC tribute Fusebox in 1996 as what was intended as the first recording for an ongoing project but subsequently disappeared without a trace.
