Band information

Psychonaut was formed in Perth in 1997 by Mark de Vattimo of Voyager and Steve Vella. With Theo Ongerazos the band began playing a style of brash, loud and furious metal drawing influences from the mid-80s scenes. An album was recorded in 2000 but deemed unreleasable by the band until it was remastered by De Vattimo and Aidan Barton of Pathogen and finally issued in January 2004. By this time, however, Ongerazos had left Psychonaut. He was replaced by Seb Giorgi during 2002.

In mid-2005, former Scourge guitarist Simone Dow joined the band, also joining Voyager at the same time. At the end of the same year, Vella departed. Canion of Inter Alia and Seraphim came in to replace him. As the band worked on a second album, they supported the likes of Finntroll, Exodus, Death Angel and Armored Saint. Dow and Canion departed as Voyager's fortunes rose and de Vattimo rebuilt the line-up with Mike Kaval, Luke Aumond and Simon Hallett all joining the band. Psychonaut played at the Perth Bastardfest in 2011 and Shock 'em Dead! appeared in 2012, with the line-up of DeVattimo, Hallett and Kaval plus Brody Simpson recording drum parts.
